RESUMO

Sprouting of mossy fibers, one of the most consistent findings in tissue from patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy, exhibits several uncommon axonal growth features and has been considered a paradigmatic example of circuit plasticity that occurs in the adult brain. Clarifying the mechanisms responsible may provide new insight into epileptogenesis as well as axon misguidance in the central nervous system. Methyl-CpG-binding protein 2 (MeCP2) binds to methylated genomic DNA to regulate a range of physiological functions implicated in neuronal development and adult synaptic plasticity. However, exploring the potential role of MeCP2 in the documented misguidance of axons in the dentate gyrus has not yet been attempted. In this study, a status epilepticus-induced decrease of neuronal MeCP2 was observed in the dentate gyrus (DG). An essential regulatory role of MeCP2 in the development of functional mossy fiber sprouting (MFS) was confirmed through stereotaxic injection of a recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) to up- or down-regulate MeCP2 in the dentate neurons. Chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-seq) was performed to identify the binding profile of native MeCP2 using micro-dissected dentate tissues. In both dentate tissues and HT22 cell lines, we demonstrated that MeCP2 could act as a transcription repressor on miR-682 with the involvement of the DNA methylation mechanism. Further, we found that miR-682 could bind to mRNA of phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) in a sequence specific manner, thus leading to the suppression of PTEN and excessive activation of mTOR. This study therefore presents a novel epigenetic mechanism by identifying MeCP2/miR-682/PTEN/mTOR as an essential signal pathway in regulating the formation of MFS in the temporal lobe epileptic (TLE) mice. SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: Understanding the mechanisms that regulate axon guidance is important for a better comprehension of neural disorders. Sprouting of mossy fibers, one of the most consistent findings in patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy, has been considered a paradigmatic example of circuit plasticity in the adult brain. Although abnormal regulation of DNA methylation has been observed in both experimental rodents and humans with epilepsy, the potential role of DNA methylation in this well-documented example of sprouting of dentate axon remains elusive. This study demonstrates an essential role of methyl-CpG-binding protein 2 in the formation of mossy fiber sprouting. The underlying signal pathway has been also identified. The data hence provide new insight into epileptogenesis as well as axon misguidance in the central nervous system.

RESUMO

Anesthetics-induced disruption of dentate neurogenesis in the young brain is strongly suggested to contribute to delayed neurocognitive deficit. In postnatal rodents, the neurogenesis of the dentate gyrus (DG) is sequentially derived from the secondary dentate matrix, tertiary dentate matrix and subgranular zone (SGZ). However, the effects of anesthetics on the dentate neurogenesis derived from specific sites are poorly understood. To trace the new cells generated from the postnatal secondary dentate matrix, peak stage of the tertiary dentate matrix and early stage of the SGZ after isoflurane exposure, mice at postnatal day 1 (P1), P7 and P31 were injected with BrdU at 12 h before the exposure. We found that isoflurane exposure significantly reduced the numbers of proliferating cells (1 day old), immature granule cells (21 days old) or mature granule cells (42 days old) derived from the peak stage of the tertiary dentate matrix and postnatal secondary dentate matrix, but not from the SGZ. Quantitative assessment of BrdU-/BrdU+NeuN-positive cells and cleaved caspase-3 level in the DG indicated that the reduction was correlated with cell loss rather than neuronal differentiation. Mechanistically, we demonstrated that the PI3K/Akt/GSK-3ß pathway enriched by mRNA-sequencing is a requirement for the isoflurane-induced loss of 1-day-old proliferating cells generated from the tertiary dentate matrix. In addition, this study demonstrated that P1 and P7 mice, but not P31 mice exposure to isoflurane resulted in subsequent deficits in performance of the tasks of the Morris Water Maze.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The architecture of retrorectal fasciae is complex, as determined by different anatomical concepts. The aim of this study was to examine the anatomical characteristics of the inferomedial extension of the urogenital fascia (UGF) involving the pelvis to explore its relationship with the adjacent fasciae. Furthermore, we have expounded on the clinical application of UGF. METHOD: For our study, we examined 20 adult male pelvic specimens fixed in formalin, including 2 entire pelvic specimens and 18 semipelvic specimens. Our department has performed 466 laparoscopic rectal cancer procedures since January 2020. We reviewed the surgical videos involving UGF preservation and analyzed the anatomy of the UGF. RESULTS: The bilateral hypogastric nerves ran between the visceral and parietal layers of the UGF. The visceral fascia migrated ventrally at the fourth sacral vertebra, which formed the rectosacral fascia together with the fascia propria of the rectum; the parietal layer continually extended to the pelvic diaphragm, terminating at the levator ani muscle. At the third to fourth sacral vertebra level, the two layers constituted the lateral ligaments. CONCLUSION: The double layers of the UGF are vital structures for comprehending the posterior fascia relationship of the rectum. The upper segment between the fascia propria of the rectum and the visceral layer has no evident nerves or blood vessels and is regarded as the " holy plane" for the operation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Controversies regarding the anatomical structure of Denonvilliers' fascia and its relationship with surrounding fasciae have sparked a heated discussion, especially concerning whether Denonvilliers' fascia is multilayered. This study aimed to expound on the anatomical structure of Denonvilliers' fascia and its correlation with the peritoneum from the sagittal view and clarify the complex fascial relationship. METHODS: Our study was performed on 20 adult male pelvic specimens fixed in formalin, including 2 entire pelvic specimens and 18 semipelvic specimens. The local adjacent organs and fasciae were dissected, and Denonvilliers' fascia was observed and removed for histological examination. RESULTS: Denonvilliers' fascia was typically single-layered and tough. On the sagittal plane, the peritoneum constituting the peritoneal reflection and Denonvilliers' fascia formed a "Y" shape. Denonvilliers' fascia originated from the peritoneal reflection, extended along the ventral side of the seminal vesicles and prostate, continuing caudally; its bilateral sides closely connected to the urogenital fascia (UGF) of the pelvic wall. In addition, histology preliminarily indicated that the basal cell layers of the peritoneum and Denonvilliers' fascia were continuous and formed a "Y" shape. Furthermore, the basal cells of the two peritonea extended to Denonvilliers' fascia, creating a fused double-layered structure. Some tiny blood vessels or a network of such vessels extended from the peritoneum to Denonvilliers' fascia. CONCLUSION: Denonvilliers' fascia, the extension of the peritoneum in the pelvic floor, appears as a single-layered "Y"-shape on the sagittal plane. Our study provides new support for the peritoneal fusion theory. Understanding the anatomical characteristics of Denonvilliers' fascia and its relationship with the UGF is of guiding significance for inexperienced colorectal surgeons to conduct rectal cancer surgery.

RESUMO

Purpose: Liver kinase B1 (LKB1), also known as serine/threonine kinase 11, was considered as a tumor suppressor, which exhibited anti-cancer activity in a variety of cancers. However, the effect of LKB1 in thyroid cancer remains unclear. Methods: In the study, MTT assay, colony formation assay, flow cytometry, western blot analysis, wound healing assay, transwell assays, quantitative real-time PCR, HUVEC migration assay, ELISA assay, tube formation assay and nude mice xenograft were used to investigate the anti-cancer capacity of LKB1 in thyroid cancer in vitro and in vivo. Results: In the present study, we found that the expression of LKB1 was lower in thyroid cancer tissues and cell lines, compared with the adjacent normal tissue and thyroid epithelial cell. After construction of stable clone cells with ectopic LKB1 overexpression, the findings revealed that LKB1 overexpression exerted anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic property in thyroid cancer TPC-1 and BCPAP cells. In addition, LKB1 overexpression could inhibit migration and invasion, downregulate MMP2 and MMP9 expressions, and reverse EMT in thyroid cancer cells. Furthermore, overexpression of LKB1 attenuated HUVEC recruitment, decreased the expression of VEGFA and inhibited the formation of new vessels in thyroid cancer cells. To validate the underlying mechanism of LKB1 in thyroid cancer, the results showed that LKB1 could positively regulate SIK1 in thyroid cancer TPC-1 and BCPAP cells. Additionally, the SIK1 inhibitor HG-9-91-01 could partially abrogate the anti-proliferative and anti-metastatic effect of LKB1, and reverse MET (mesenchymal-to-epithelial transition) mediated by LKB1 overexpression. Ultimately, the results in vivo revealed that LKB1 overexpression exhibited a strong inhibitory effect of tumorigenicity and presented anti-angiogenic characteristic in nude mice xenograft model. Conclusion: the results demonstrated that LKB1 could inhibit proliferation, metastasis phenotype and angiogenesis, and reverse EMT in thyroid cancer in vitro and vivo via the upregulation of SIK1, suggesting that LKB1 could be considered as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of thyroid cancer.

RESUMO

Studies on rodents and nonhuman primates suggest that exposure to anesthetics, particularly in the young brain, is associated with neuronal apoptosis as well as hippocampaldependent cognitive dysfunction. Disruption of the development of dentate gyrus may play an important role in anestheticsinduced neurotoxicity. However, the anesthetics triggered molecular events in the dentate gyrus of the developing brain are poorly understood. By integrating two independent data sets obtained from miRNAseq and mRNAseq respectively, this study aims to profile the network of miRNA and potential target genes, as well as relevant events occurring in the dentate gyrus of isoflurane exposed 7dayold mice. We found that a single four hours exposure to isoflurane yielded 1059 pairs of differently expressed miRNAs/target genes in the dentate gyrus. Gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analysis further indicates that dysregulated miRNAs/target genes have farreaching effects on the cellular pathophysiological events, such as cell apoptosis, axon development, and synaptic transmission. Our results would greatly broaden our functional understanding of the role of miRNA/target gene in the context of anestheticsinduced neurotoxicity.

RESUMO

In temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), abnormal axon guidance and synapse formation lead to sprouting of mossy fibers in the hippocampus, which is one of the most consistent pathological findings in patients and animal models with TLE. Glypican 4 (Gpc4) belongs to the heparan sulfate proteoglycan family, which play an important role in axon guidance and excitatory synapse formation. However, the role of Gpc4 in the development of mossy fibers sprouting (MFS) and its underlying mechanism remain unknown. Using a pilocarpine-induced mice model of epilepsy, we showed that Gpc4 expression was significantly increased in the stratum granulosum of the dentate gyrus at 1 week after status epilepticus (SE). Using Gpc4 overexpression or Gpc4 shRNA lentivirus to regulate the Gpc4 level in the dentate gyrus, increased or decreased levels of netrin-1, SynI, PSD-95, and Timm score were observed in the dentate gyrus, indicating a crucial role of Gpc4 in modulating the development of functional MFS. The observed effects of Gpc4 on MFS were significantly antagonized when mice were treated with L-leucine or rapamycin, an agonist or antagonist of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signal, respectively, demonstrating that mTOR pathway is an essential requirement for Gpc4-regulated MFS. Additionally, the attenuated spontaneous recurrent seizures (SRSs) were observed during chronic stage of the disease by suppressing the Gpc4 expression after SE. Altogether, our findings demonstrate a novel control of neuronal Gpc4 on the development of MFS through the mTOR pathway after pilocarpine-induced SE. Our results also strongly suggest that Gpc4 may serve as a promising target for antiepileptic studies.

RESUMO

MicroRNAs (miRNA) are believed to play a crucial role in the cause and treatment of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) by controlling gene expression in different stages of the disease. To investigate role of miRNA in the latent stage following status epilepticus, we first compared microRNA expression profiles in mice hippocampus at 1 week after pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus (SE) vs. controls in hippocampal tissues using Exiqon miRCURY LNA™ miRNAs Array. Then, the target genes of altered miRNAs were predicted using both TargetScan 7.1 and miRDB V5, and were further selected by intersecting with another independent mRNA expression profile dataset from the samples at the same time point. We found out 14 common genes as down miRNA target (up-mRNA) and 4 common genes as up miRNA target (down mRNA) in SE mice. miR-669m-3p-TRHR (thyrotropin releasing hormone receptor), miR-669m-3p-B3galt2 (ß-1,3-Galactosyltransferase 2), miR-105-PDPN (Podoplanin) and miR-883b-3p-CLEC-2 (C-type-lectin-like-2) were found to be potential molecular mechanisms to modulate the calcium signaling pathway, glycosylation pathways and chemokine mediated inflammatory processes in mice hippocampus at 1 week after pilocarpine-induced SE, respectively. Our results offered potential novel insights into the cellular events in the mice hippocampus mediated by miRNASs-target genes that shape SE-evoked epileptogenesis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the early clinical effects of transforaminal endoscopic spine system (TESSYS) for the treatment of bilateral lumbar disc herniation in single segment. METHODS: The clinical data of 38 patients with single-segment bilateral lumbar disc herniation treated by TESSYS technique from February 2016 to February 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 26 males and 12 females, aged from 30 to 55 years old with an average of(35.2±6.4) years, 6 cases of L3,4, 22 cases of L4,5, and 10 cases of L5S11. Using the intervertebral foramen endoscope produced by Joimax GmbH, Germany, under local anesthesia, bilateral puncture to the outside of the intervertebral foramen of the diseased segment, four-stage dilatation catheter to complete the progressive enlargement of the intervertebral foramen, and the ring saw progressively enlarge the intervertebral foramen. The bilateral foramen was placed and the herniated nucleus was removed until the nerve root was completely released. Postoperatively, the patients were reviewed on regular outpatient visits and telephone follow-ups. Visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were compared before operation and after operation at 1, 3, 6, 12 months respectively. At the final follow-up, according to modified MacNab criteria to evaluate the clinical effect. RESULTS: Thirty-six patients underwent successful surgery and were followed up for more than 12 months. The ODI score and VAS score of the lower extremities pain at 1, 3, 6, 12 months after operation were obviously improved (P<0.05), there was significant difference between 1, 3 months and 6, 12 months after operation(P<0.05), there was no significant difference between 1 and 3 months, between 6 and 12 months after operation (P>0.05). At the final follow-up, according to MacNab criteria, 14 cases got excellent results, 16 good, 4 fair, 2 poor. CONCLUSIONS: Using TESSYS technique to remove the bilateral herniated nucleus from single segment can fully decompress for the nerve root, and can be effectively applied to patients with single-segment bilateral lumbar disc herniation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Associations between Arg399Gln single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the XRCC1 gene and leukemia susceptibility have been studied extensively, however, the results are inconsistent. The aim of this study was to determine these associations using meta-analytical methods. METHODS: A meta-analysis was performed to examine the associations between XRCC1 Arg399-Gln SNP and leukemia risk. A literature search of PubMed and Web of Science databases was conducted to identify relevant studies published up to March 10, 2015. The references of the retrieved articles were also screened. All the statistical analyses were conducted using Review Manager software. RESULTS: The XRCC1 Arg399Gln SNP was found to be associated with increased childhood risk of acute lymphoblastic leukemia among Asians under the dominant (odds ratio [OR] 2.11, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.50-2.97, P<0.0001), allele contrast (OR 1.72, 95% CI 1.33-2.23, P<0.0001), and homozygote contrast (OR 2.34, 95% CI 1.25-4.36, P=0.008) models. However, no association was found in Caucasians between the SNP and risk of either chronic myeloid leukemia or chronic lymphocytic leukemia under any contrast model. CONCLUSION: The findings of the current meta-analysis indicate that the XRCC1 Arg399Gln SNP is a risk factor for childhood lymphoblastic leukemia in Asians.

RESUMO

Linear variable filters (LVF) are widely used in a variety of small rapid spectrometric detecting devices. In the present paper, the splitting property of LVF was studied, and the spectral-property expression in Gaussian form was given, and the relationship between indexes of expression and LVF center transmission, width of spectrum, and linear dispersion was specified. Measurement based on monochromator for imaging spectrometers calibration was introduced, the sensitivity for detection system was discussed, and the tolerance was analyzed. It was shown that the slit displacement of monochromator relative to the optical axle and the slope of LVF affect the detecting accuracy most, and the tolerance can be reduced by adjustment of optical path and structure to reach requirement. System was built and the detection for spectral property of sample LVF was made. The result of data processing indicates that MSE for center transmission detection was lower than 0.05%, and the accuracy of this method was proved. Reference-parameters of relevant system designing and calibrating based on the LVF can be provided by this method.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There are different opinions about the relationship of two disjunctively distributed varieties Adiantum reniforme L. var. sinense Y.X.Lin and Adiantum reniforme L. Adiantum reniforme var. sinense is an endangered fern only distributed in a narrowed region of Chongqing city in China, while Adiantum reniforme var. reniforme just distributed in Canary Islands and Madeira off the north-western African coast. To verify the relationship of these two taxa, relative phylogenetic analyses, karyotype analyses, microscopic spore observations and morphological studies were performed in this study. Besides, divergence time between A. reniforme var. sinense and A. reniforme var. reniforme was estimated using GTR model according to a phylogeny tree constructed with the three cpDNA markers atpA, atpB, and rbcL. RESULTS: Phylogenetic results and divergence time analyses--all individuals of A. reniforme var. sinense from 4 different populations (representing all biogeographic distributions) were clustered into one clade and all individuals of A. reniforme var. reniforme from 7 different populations (all biogeographic distributions are included) were clustered into another clade. The divergence between A. reniforme var. reniforme and A. reniforme var. sinense was estimated to be 4.94 (2.26-8.66) Myr. Based on karyotype analyses, A. reniforme var. reniforme was deduced to be hexaploidy with 2n = 180, X = 30, while A. reniforme var. sinense was known as tetraploidy. Microscopic spore observations suggested that surface ornamentation of A. reniforme var. reniforme is psilate, but that of A. reniforme var. sinense is rugate. Leaf blades of A. reniforme var. sinense are membranous and reniform and with several obvious concentric rings, and leaves of A. reniforme var. reniforme are pachyphyllous and coriaceous and are much rounder and similar to palm. CONCLUSION: Adiantum reniforme var. sinense is an independent species rather than the variety of Adiantum reniforme var. reniforme. As a result, we approve Adiantum nelumboides X. C. Zhang, nom. & stat. nov. as a legal name instead of the former Adiantum reniforme var. sinense. China was determined to be the most probable evolution centre based on the results of phylogenetic analyses, divergence estimation, relative palaeogeography and palaeoclimate materials.

RESUMO

In the temporally-modulated Fourier transform spectroscopy, the translational moving mirror is difficult to drive accurately, causing tilt and shear problems. While, a rotational moving mirror can solve these problems. A rotary Fourier transform spectrometer is recommanded in this paper. Its principle is analyzed and the optical path difference is deduced. Also, the constrains for engineering realization are presented. This spectrometer consists of one beamsplitter, two fixed mirrors, one rotating parallel mirror pair, a collimating lens, a collecting lens, and one detector. From it's principle, this spectrometer show a simple structure, and it is assembled and adjustmented easily because the two split light are interfered with each other after reflected through the same plane mirror; By calculating the expression of it's optical path difference, the spectrometer is easy to realize large optical path difference, meaning high spectral resolution; Through analyzing it's engineering design constraints and computer simulation, it is known that the spectrometer should get the high resolution sample by high-speed spinning motor, so it is easy to achieve precise motion control, good stability, fast measurement speed.

RESUMO

The principle and instrumental structure of large aperture static imaging spectrometer (LASIS) were briefly described in the present paper, the principle of the Mach-Zehnder imaging spectrometer was introduced, and the Mach-Zehnder interferometers' working way in the imaging spectrometer was illustrated. The structure of solid Mach-Zehnder interferometer was analyzed, and discussion was made based on the requirements of field of view (FOV) in image space and single sided interferogram with a small portion around zero path difference (ZPD). The additional optical path difference (OPD) created by manufacturing and matching tolerance of two asymmetrical pentagonal prisms will lead to the displacement of shearing and OPD nonlinearity. It was showed that the additional OPD from non-common optical path structure of solid Mach-Zehnder spectrometer implies more requirements on the manufacture of this element, compared with Sagnac interferometer, for the matching tolerance of two asymmetrical pentagonal prisms to br lower than 0.02 mm. The recovery spectrum error caused by the OPD nonlinearity is lower than 0.2% and can be ignored.

RESUMO

Ginsenoside Rd (Rd), one of the main active ingredients in Panax ginseng, has multifunctional activity via different mechanisms and neuroprotective effects that are exerted probably via its antioxidant or free radical scavenger action. However, the effects of Rd on spinal cord mitochondrial dysfunction and underlying mechanisms are still obscure. In this study, we sought to investigate the in vitro effects of Rd on mitochondrial integrity and redox balance in isolated spinal cord mitochondria. We verified that Ca2+ dissipated the membrane potential, provoked mitochondrial swelling and decreased NAD(P)H matrix content, which were all attenuated by Rd pretreatment in a dose-dependent manner. In contrast, Rd was not able to inhibit Ca2+ induced mitochondrial hydrogen peroxide generation. The results of Western blot showed that Rd significantly increased the expression of p-Akt and p-ERK, but had no effects on phosphorylation of PKC and p38. In addition, Rd treatment significantly attenuated Ca2+ induced cytochrome c release, which was partly reversed by antagonists of Akt and ERK, but not p-38 inhibitor. The effects of bisindolylmaleimide, a PKC inhibitor, on Rd-induced inhibition of cytochrome c release seem to be at the level of its own detrimental activity on mitochondrial function. Furthermore, we also found that pretreatment with Rd in vivo (10 and 50 mg/kg) protected spinal cord mitochondria against Ca2+ induced mitochondrial membrane potential dissipation and cytochrome c release. It is concluded that Rd regulate mitochondrial permeability transition pore formation and cytochrome c release through protein kinases dependent mechanism involving activation of intramitochondrial Akt and ERK pathways.

RESUMO

The present paper describes the observations and measurements of the infrared absorption spectra of CO2 on the Earth's surface with OP/FTIR method by employing a mid-infrared reflecting scanning Fourier transform spectrometry, which are the first results produced by the first prototype in China developed by the team of authors. This reflecting scanning Fourier transform spectrometry works in the spectral range 2 100-3 150 cm(-1) with a spectral resolution of 2 cm(-1). Method to measure the atmospheric molecules was described and mathematical proof and quantitative algorithms to retrieve molecular concentration were established. The related models were performed both by a direct method based on the Beer-Lambert Law and by a simulating-fitting method based on HITRAN database and the instrument functions. Concentrations of CO2 were retrieved by the two models. The results of observation and modeling analyses indicate that the concentrations have a distribution of 300-370 ppm, and show tendency that going with the variation of the environment they first decrease slowly and then increase rapidly during the observation period, and reached low points in the afternoon and during the sunset. The concentrations with measuring times retrieved by the direct method and by the simulating-fitting method agree with each other very well, with the correlation of all the data is up to 99.79%, and the relative error is no more than 2.00%. The precision for retrieving is relatively high. The results of this paper demonstrate that, in the field of detecting atmospheric compositions, OP/FTIR method performed by the Infrared reflecting scanning Fourier transform spectrometry is a feasible and effective technical approach, and either the direct method or the simulating-fitting method is capable of retrieving concentrations with high precision.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study was to compare the biomechanical and interfacial performances of EPS and PMMA-PS in sheep lumbar vertebrae in vitro. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: It is a great challenge for orthopedic surgeons performing transpedicular fixation in the osteoporotic spine. It was reported that either the EPS or PMMA-PS could increase the screw stability. However, there are no studies comparing the 2 kinds of screws especially in primary spinal instrumentation. METHODS: A total of 60 sheep lumbar vertebrae were randomly divided into 3 groups. A pilot hole was made in advance in all samples using the same method. Thereafter, the conventional pedicle screw (CPS) was inserted directly into the pilot hole in the CPS group; the hole in PMMA-PS group was first filled with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA; 1.0 mL) and then inserted with CPS; and the EPS was inserted directly into the vertebrae in EPS group. After a period of 24 hours, biomechanical tests were performed to evaluate screw stability, and x-ray examination, micro-computerized tomography analysis, and histologic observation were performed to evaluate the interface between screw and bone. RESULTS: Compared with the stability of CPS, those of EPS and PMMA-PS were significantly enhanced. However, no significant differences were detected between the stabilities of EPS and PMMA-PS. The PMMA surrounding the screw blocked direct contact between bone and screw and formed a "screw-PMMA-bone" interface in the PMMA-PS group. There was a "screw-bone" interface in both CPS and EPS groups. Nevertheless, the expanded anterior part of EPS formed a claw-like structure pressing the surrounding bone trabeculae, which made the local bone tissue more compacted and denser than that in the CPS group. CONCLUSIONS: EPS can enhance the screw stability as markedly as the traditional PMMA-PS in primary surgery, and EPS can form a better immediate interface between screw and bone compared with PMMA-PS. EPS also can effectively avoid thermal injury, leakage, and compression caused by PMMA. A great feasibility was proved in this study to perform comparisons between the 2 kinds of pedicle screws in osteoporotic sheep vertebrae in vivo in the further research. In conclusion, we propose that EPS has a great application potential in augmentation of screw stability in the clinic.

RESUMO

Considering the development of the need for small volume and light weight of spectral imaging systems on airborne platform, the characters of several main imaging spectrometers was analyzed and the present paper focuses on introducing imaging spectrometers featuring a grating or a prism disperser. A compact hyperspectral imaging system based on Offner relay configuration is reported. Combining the characters of the concentric Offner relay, and knowing the system design parameters, two novel kinds of spherical spectrometer systems using dispersive elements in divergent and convergent beam were designed. Moreover, the system MTF, spot diagram and the curves of smile and keystone were analyzed. The results show that these two kinds of Offner spectrometer achieve the purpose of a compact form of remote sensing system with excellent imaging quality close to diffraction limit. At the same time, decreasing the smile and keystone to a small (0.1) fraction of a pixel assures uniformity of acquiring spectral data.

RESUMO

A wide-field pushbroom hyperspectral imager covering short-wavelength infrared range is presented, which can be carried by space borne or airborne platform for remote sensing, acquiring hyperspectral data cube, and analyzing substance compositions and physicochemical properties. Curved prism which simultaneously possesses the functions of dispersion and imaging is used as the prismatic element, and the combination with Offner relay configuration substantially simplifies the design of spectrometer. Compared to conventional dispersive spectral imagers, this design is compact, light-weighted, and small-sized, and can efficiently correct unavoidable spectral line curve (smile) and spectral band (keystone or frown) by prismatic dispersion Compared to grating spectral imagers of the same configuration, the energy utilization efficiency of this design is much higher. The paraxial aberration theory and imaging characteristics of Offner relay configuration is briefly described. The optical layout and image evaluations, including spatial and spectral dimensions, are illustrated respectively, according to Monte Carlo ray-tracing results of seven principal wavelengths.
